Infosys is committed to higher standards of corporate governance, said the newly-anointed non-executive chairman, Nandan Nilekani.
He added that the company would adhere to all legal agreements with anyone who is leaving the company indicating that any investigation into Panaya acquisition deal would not be a witch-hunt against former CEO Vishal Sikka or the board, four members of which resigned on Thursday.
"I am committed to finding solutions in a holistic manner. What is more important is that we focus on the future of the business that is transforming the company needs and customer needs. We will take care of all other things," Nilekani said in an investor call on Friday morning.
However, Nilekani clarified that he would not be looking at day-to-day execution.
"I feel my job is to ensure complete stability, complete alignment of views of all shareholders, including the investor and founders, the board and the integral management. Getting the alignment is the need of the hour and I am quite comfortable that there is a strong execution capability in the company. It is not about going back to me as a CEO," he said.
"I am not here as an execution guy, I am here as somebody who has, it appears, to have the confidence of all the stakeholders, be it the founders, institutional shareholders, board, customers," Nilekani said.
Assuaging investors' concerns over the duration of his tenure, Nilekani also clarified that he would stay as long as the company requires and would not leave as soon as the company finds a new CEO.
"I will stay as long as necessary. I will not put a time frame on this and my appointment to the board is also not with a specific duration. One of my jobs is to get the new CEO. I have a number of tasks on my plate. I will stay as long as necessary to finish them, making sure that the company is on a sound footing for the future," Nilekani said.
Nilekani also said that there will be customer continuity. "Many of the customers are the customers I knew when I was there. If any particular customer relationship requires my involvement, I will do it," he said.
