Youths hold three million-man rally for President Buhari

A three million-man rally for President Muhammadu Buhari has been held in Owerri, the Imo state capital amid calls for Biafra agitation that has ravaged the southeast region.

The solidarity rally tagged three million-man march’ for President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Rochas Okorocha, was organized on Tuesday, July 4, by a coalition of youth groups who said they were showing appreciation for the good governance, fight against corruption and exemplary leadership by the Buhari administration.

Some of the groups who partook in the rally included, the Imo state Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, led by Mr. Izuchukwu Okebaram; Niger Delta Freedom Fighters; Imo Youth Council Amalgamation; Imo Community Watch, ICW, led by Frank Onwumere,, among others, Vanguard reports.

The rally had been scheduled for Monday, July 3 in response to a planned one-million anti-government protest originally organised by a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Kelechi Nwagwu.

After marching on the major streets of the state capital, the coordinator of the rally, Comrade Jeff Nwaoha, handed their document to Governor Okorocha, Guardian reports.

Nwaoha stated that the rally was in appreciation of President Buhari’s achievements, especially the relentless war against corruption.

He said the youths also appreciated the governor’s monumental achievements in Imo state, adding that the Okorocha's six-year stewardship had surpassed the achievements of his predecessors put together.

Meanwhile, members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) have staged anti-Rochas Okorocha rally to protest the governor’s opposition to the Biafra struggle.

At the rally which took place on Tuesday, July 4, in major streets of Owerri, the Imo state capital, scores of pro-Biafra agitators chanted derogatory song against the of Governor Okorocha for refusing to back their cause. One of the leaders of the group, King David, accused the governor of opposing the Biafra struggle for selfish reasons.
